We frequently implement a variety of techniques from various bodywork modalities to provide you a customized massage according to your needs and preferences.  Below are descriptions of some of these modalities and offerings:

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue Massage addresses a variety of orthopedic conditions including trigger points (see right), muscle tightness and inbalances, pain, and limited range of motion.  Despite the name of this modality, pressure is applied only to the depth perceived by the client to be therapeutic and clients generally report deep relaxation benefits.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger points (small contraction "knots" frequently found in muscle tissue) are responsible for roughly 75% of physical pain and are involved, at least in part, in virtually every structural pain problem including but not limited to frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, low back pain, sports and repetitive strain injuries, and accident trauma.  Applied techniques include direct pressure, friction, and kneading of tender muscles.  This technique is often combined with Deep Tissue Massage but treatment may be applied through loose, comfortable clothing as well.

Barefoot Sports Massage

Barefoot Sports Massage is a great way to get deep relief for tight, aching muscles.  The client lays comfortably on a mat while pressure is applied by the feet to eliminate deep-seated trigger points and chronic tension. This deeply relaxing technique is great for athletes and those who seek very deep pressure.  This massage may easily be combined with a floor Thai Massage. 

Back Pain Relief

At some point in their life, approximately 9 out of 10 adults have experienced back pain. Massage therapy has been proven extremely effective at reducing and preventing back pain and sciatica symptoms.  This massage targets areas to relieve pain and tension in the low back, hips, neck, and shoulders.  Self-care and preventive measures can be demonstrated and discussed if desired.

Touch For Health

We incorporate these popular kinesiology techniques when appropriate in our Orthopedic Sports Massage.  Touch For Health relies on muscle testing, acupressure, and balancing techniques to identify and correct muscles that may not be properly firing or engaging, unlock areas of pain and enervation, enhance posture and postural awareness, and restore muscle vitality.

Orthopedic Sports Massage

Orthopedic Sports Massage 

addresses a variety of injuries, range of motion limitations, and postural conditions including 

piriformis syndrome ("mock sciatica"),"Upper Crossed Syndrome 

("hunchback"), Lower Crossed Syndrome ("swayback"), ankle sprains, pulled muscles, kinked necks, tendinitis/tendinosis, and whiplash, to name a few. 

Thai Massage

Derived from the Hatha Yoga system, Thai massage incorporates acupressure applied to meridian pathways, compression of muscle tissue, and assisted stretching to leave the recipient feeling peaceful, centered, and energized.  Please wear loose or stretch clothing.  Our Thai Massage is adapted for the massage table but may also be provided on the floor and can easily be combined with the Barefoot Sports Massage!

Swedish Relaxation

Swedish Massage 

enhances circulation and digestive processes, relieves tension and fatigue in muscles, releases toxins, and promotes the body's natural healing process, all while employing gentle, soothing, and flowing techniques.  Other benefits?  Even a "fluffy" relaxing Swedish massage can lower blood pressure and help beat pain!  

Prenatal Massage

Enjoy your pregnancy without all the aches and pains!  Benefits of a prenatal massage may include reduction of stress; increased blood and lymph circulation; reduced water retention; relief from tension and musculo-skeletal strain; facilitation of respiratory, gastrointestinal, and hormonal processes; and development of kinesthetic awareness to support the active birthing process.
      If you are pregnant, please be sure you receive massage only from practitioners legitimately certified in Prenatal or Pregnancy Massage!

Lymphatic Drainage

This oil-based massage is designed to remove toxins from the body that can cause a variety of symptoms and diseases.  This massage focuses largely on clearing and toning the digestive system, awakening lymph nodes to proper functioning, and reducing edema (water retention).  Energetic therapy is also utilized to support the body's processing of the work.

Digestive Support

This 60-minute session comprehensively addresses digestive issues, aids the absorption of nutrients, clears blockages, supports a detox program, and promotes overall health and well being utilizing abdominal massage techniques and Acupressure.  The hour is rounded out with relaxing Swedish Massage, promoting the parasympathetic (relaxation) response state.

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi

“Lomi Lomi” means “to weave” in Hawaiian.  In this massage, weaving is expressed through light, nurturing, and long flowing motions that may span head to toe in one dance-like stroke.  Traditionally, as a rite of passage into adulthood, a Hawaiian shaman might spend hours or even days providing Lomi Lomi on one individual until an epiphany about one’s next stage in life was reached.  Hawaiian families typically had their own unique styles of Lomi Lomi, passed down among the generations, that were used as restorative and medicinal health practices.  In addition to enhancing circulation in the body, this massage promotes harmony, balance, and a meditative “surrender,” helping clients let go of anything that is no longer serving them and to receive more of their soul energy.  Some claim it is the ultimate in full-body and mental relaxation.

CranioSacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Designed to release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

Reflexology

There are more than 7,000 nerve endings in each foot which correspond to all parts of the body, including organs and glands.  Working on specific points in the hands and feet, stress and tension melt from the body; circulation and lymphatic flow are improved; and nerve impulse pathways can be unblocked --- all helping the body heal itself by restoring balance to the vital energies.

Reiki

Reiki, (pronounced "RAY-key") is Japanese for "Universal Life Force Energy."  This gentle, therapeutic touch promotes the healing process by transferring electromagnetic energy, clearing blockages, and enhancing deep relaxation.  Session may incorporate crystals as needed.  Full-hour sessions are available, or Reiki may be incorporated with other modalities.

Energy Clearing

Goal Balancing
